For women in the UAE, September 15, 2008 turned out to be a very special day. For, the UAE’s Cabinet on this day approved the appointment of the first two Emirati female ambassadors in the UAE’s history. Women in the UAE, Dubai in particular are being recognized for their importance in the growth and prospertity of the middle eastern region. Prior to the appointment of the ambassadors, in the last Cabinet reshuffle, two new women ministers had joined the Council of Ministers raising the number of female ministers to four. It was in December 2006, when, for the first time, UAE women entered the Federal National Council (FNC). There are, in fact, nine women in the current FNC. While one woman was elected, the other eight were appointed.
